Edible Playdough

Ages 1โ€“4 ~15 min โœ… Taste-safe

What You'll Need

  • 1 cup oat flour (or blend rolled oats into a fine powder)
  • ยฝ cup peanut butter or sunflower seed butter (nut-free option)
  • 3โ€“4 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • Optional: a pinch of cinnamon, cocoa powder, or natural food colouring
  • A mixing bowl and a spoon

Make It Together

  1. Measure the oat flour into the bowl and let your toddler stir it.
  2. Add the peanut butter and mix with a spoon โ€” it will look crumbly at first.
  3. Add honey one tablespoon at a time and keep mixing until it comes together like dough.
  4. If it's too sticky, add a little more oat flour. Too dry? A drizzle more honey.
  5. Let your toddler mix and knead with their hands โ€” messy and delicious!
  6. Divide into small balls and add different spices or cocoa to each for different "colors."

Let's Play!

  1. Roll snakes, flatten pancakes, and poke holes โ€” just like regular playdough.
  2. Press cookie cutters into the dough and name the shapes.
  3. Make pretend food: "Are you making a pizza? A cookie?"
  4. Compare the different smells and textures of each color ball.
  5. When playtime is over, eat it as a healthy snack โ€” the reward for a job well done!

๐Ÿ’ก Parent Tip

This dough keeps in the fridge for up to a week in an airtight container. It's perfect for young toddlers who still mouth everything โ€” no worries if they take a bite! Always check for nut allergies with sunflower seed butter if sharing with other children.
