Nature Scavenger Hunt

Ages 3โ€“5 ~30 min ๐ŸŒณ Outdoors

What You'll Need

  • A small bag or basket for collecting treasures
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Optional: a pencil to check off the hunt list below

Your Hunt List

  • A leaf (any shape or color)
  • A rock or pebble
  • Something yellow
  • Something rough to touch
  • A bird, bug, or butterfly
  • A flower or seed pod

Let's Do It!

  1. Head outside โ€” your yard, a park, or even a short neighborhood walk works great.
  2. Read each item on the hunt list and ask: "Can you find a leaf?"
  3. Search together and celebrate every find: "You found one! Great spotting!"
  4. Look closely at each item โ€” feel textures, describe colors, smell flowers.
  5. Count everything in your collection at the end. How many did you find?
  6. Return living things (like bugs and worms) gently back where you found them.

๐Ÿ’ก Parent Tip

Go slowly and let your toddler set the pace. The goal isn't to finish the list โ€” it's the exploration along the way. Point out things they might miss, like a tiny ant or a pattern on a leaf. Wonder out loud with them!
